Kyriakos Savva files as independent candidate after ELAM departure

On Wednesday, May 6, Kyriakos Savva officially registered as an independent candidate for the upcoming elections in Paphos. This follows his removal from the ELAM party ticket, an action the party leadership attributed to disciplinary infractions, such as pursuing a personal agenda and involvement in local religious disputes surrounding former Metropolitan Tychikos. Savva has categorically rejected these allegations, describing them as inaccurate and a distortion of his actions. He accused ELAM president Christos Christou and spokesperson Marios Pelekanos of hypocrisy, questioning their own political pasts and citing a lack of communication from the party regarding the specific reasons for his exclusion. Additionally, Savva alleged that the party leadership is orchestrating smear campaigns against him using fake social media profiles. Other party members, including Ioannis Savva, have publicly voiced support for his position, claiming that their actions were matters of personal faith rather than political maneuvering. As a result of this conflict, Kyriakos Savva has formally severed ties with the party.
