ELAM removes Paphos candidate Kyriakos Savvas over disciplinary issues

On Wednesday, the political council of the ELAM party unanimously decided to remove Kyriakos Savvas from its electoral list for the Paphos district. The party officially stated that the decision was due to continuous disciplinary offenses and a refusal to follow party lines despite multiple warnings. According to reports, the friction stemmed from Savvas’ active support for the suspended former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, and his involvement in organized groups advocating for the bishop's return. Additionally, party leadership was reportedly dissatisfied with Savvas' social media posts criticizing a same-sex civil partnership at the Minthis monastery and questioning the Synod’s position. Savvas confirmed his removal, noting that his campaign team had not been informed of the decision in advance. His team has since requested an official explanation for his abrupt dismissal so close to the May 6 candidate nomination deadline. ELAM maintains that the candidate chose to pursue his own personal agenda instead of serving the collective interest. The party intends to announce a new candidate for the Paphos district in the coming days.
