Cyprus hosts meetings of ESMA board of supervisors and management board
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission hosted the Board of Supervisors and Management Board of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in Nicosia on April 28 and 29, 2026. These meetings took place in the context of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Participants included officials from financial regulatory authorities across the EU and the European Economic Area. The Board of Supervisors is the primary decision-making body, comprising heads of national competent authorities, while the six-member Management Board oversees the authority's operations and coordination. Observers from the European Commission, ESRB, EBA, EIOPA, and the EFTA Surveillance Authority were also present. Discussions focused on market priorities, the convergence of supervisory practices, and investor protection initiatives. ESMA Chair Verena Ross emphasized that in-person meetings remain essential for fostering cooperation within the European supervisory community. The talks were described as occurring at a critical juncture for EU financial markets, with a focus on mitigating emerging risks.
