CySEC hosts ESMA meetings and marks 30th anniversary in Nicosia

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) hosted the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) board of supervisors and management board meetings in Nicosia on April 28 and 29. These sessions were held within the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which mandates that the presiding state organizes such governance gatherings. The board of supervisors, the primary decision-making body comprising heads of national competent authorities, met alongside the management board to discuss supervisory convergence and investor protection. Following these meetings, CySEC celebrated its 30th anniversary on April 29 with a conference attended by over 150 participants from the financial sector. President Nikos Christodoulides delivered the opening address, followed by remarks from CySEC chairman George Theocharides. Key international speakers included ESMA Chair Verena Ross, IOSCO Chair Jean Paul Servais, and AI expert Huy Nguyen Trieu, who discussed topics including financial market evolution and artificial intelligence. Additional representation included high-level officials from the CONSOB, CSSF, and the Hellenic Capital Market Commission.
