President Christodoulides meets with Chevron delegation to discuss energy developments
On April 29, 2026, President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides hosted a delegation from Chevron, led by Javier La Rosa, at the Presidential Palace. During the meeting, the President announced that internal procedures regarding an agreement on Cypriot natural gas are nearing completion. He emphasized that recent regional and international developments necessitate an acceleration of Cyprus’s energy plans to enhance energy security and autonomy for both the region and the European Union. President Christodoulides noted that these issues were also discussed at the informal European Council held in Cyprus the previous week, where the geostrategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean was highlighted. The President further stated that the matter was addressed with the President of Egypt, stressing the importance of regional cooperation. Cabinet decisions regarding the agreement are expected to be finalized within the coming weeks. The government aims to leverage these energy projects to strengthen Europe's alternative energy routes and supply chains.
