Internal investigation ordered for the tragedy in Chios - Crisis management protocol activated

A collision between a coast guard vessel and a boat carrying migrants off the coast of Chios has resulted in 15 fatalities and 26 injuries. Search and rescue operations are ongoing for potential missing individuals, involving patrol boats, a helicopter, and naval support. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, which occurred after the migrant boat allegedly failed to comply with signals and collided with the coast guard vessel. The injured, including two coast guard members, are receiving medical treatment. The Navy has issued a Navtex designating the search and rescue area as Greek territory.
