Four-year-old child hospitalized in Crete after dog attack

A four-year-old boy is in stable but serious condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) following a dog attack in Vatolakkos, Chania. The incident occurred in the family's courtyard while the child was under the supervision of his grandmother. Reports indicate the child approached the dog, which was a family pet raised alongside him, when the animal attacked him for unknown reasons. The boy sustained severe injuries to his face and head, including damage near his eyes, nose, ears, and sinuses. He underwent multi-hour surgeries at the Chania Hospital before being transferred to Heraklion under police escort to ensure rapid transport via the VOAK highway. Medical teams performed extensive efforts to stabilize him, and authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and potential liabilities.
