European commission report on cyprus agricultural and environmental policies
A new European Commission report published on Tuesday outlines agricultural and climate actions within the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2023–2027 period. The findings are intended to serve as a foundation for planning policies post-2027. Regarding Cyprus, the report notes that eco-schemes covered approximately 22% of agricultural land in 2024. Additionally, agri-environmental and climate commitments account for roughly 11% of the total land. A specific program in Cyprus focused on reducing chemical pesticide usage was implemented across 8,400 hectares of farmland. This initiative saw significant farmer participation, particularly in measures restricting or prohibiting herbicides. The report also highlights Cyprus's efforts in promoting the use of organic fertilizers as part of its sustainability strategies.
