Former nursery worker and partner sentenced in Belgium for child abuse

A 25-year-old former nursery worker and her 41-year-old former partner were sentenced by a Brussels court to 10 and 12 years in prison, respectively. Between 2020 and 2022, the pair committed acts of rape, sexual assault, and the distribution of child pornography at a daycare center located on a Brussels university campus. The woman facilitated her partner's unauthorized access to the facility, allowing assaults to occur without adult supervision. The defendants recorded these acts and shared the media via their mobile phones. While authorities initially investigated five victims aged between 18 and 36 months, evidence ultimately supported convictions regarding three children, one of whom was a victim of rape. Lawyer Julien Charles confirmed that insufficient evidence existed for the remaining two cases. During the trial, both defendants denied the allegations, although the court noted the man displayed manipulative tendencies.
