Coastal protection project planned for Paphos and Yeroskipou
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, held a meeting in Nicosia to discuss a major coastal protection project for the southwestern shores of Paphos and Yeroskipou. The project involves the construction of 11 parallel and 5 perpendicular breakwaters extending from the Yeroskipou area to the Paphos Municipal Baths. The municipalities of Paphos and Yeroskipou, along with the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Department of Public Works, are coordinating the initiative. The project is being developed to address the accelerated coastal erosion that has affected the region in recent years. Authorities intend to tender the project in 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in March 2027. To minimize impact on tourists and businesses, officials have designated the eastern part of the Yeroskipou municipal beach, near the Ezousa River, as the primary access point for transporting quarry materials. Stakeholders are currently finalizing logistical details to prevent potential implementation issues.
