89-year-old man carries out armed attacks in Athens

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, an 89-year-old man identified as P.K. conducted armed attacks at the EFKA social security offices and a courthouse in Athens, resulting in five injuries. The suspect, born in Messinia in 1937, had previously lived and worked in Berlin and Chicago. Following the incident, a letter emerged in which the man detailed his grievances regarding his inability to receive a pension after years of international work. In his correspondence, he alleged that Greek officials at the Attica Square social security office mistreated him and accused him of forgery and sabotage regarding his pension records. He stated that he had successfully secured pensions from the United States and Germany in 2005 but faced continuous bureaucratic obstacles upon attempting to process his Greek social security records. The suspect claimed that staff had verbally abused him during administrative visits, labeling him a traitor. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the double attack.
