Trial begins for suspects accused of plotting a terrorist attack on Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna
Two 21-year-old men, identified as Beran A. and Arda K., have gone on trial in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, for their alleged involvement in an Islamic State terror plot. Beran A. admitted to plotting an attack on Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna, which were scheduled for August 2024, but denied involvement in other alleged schemes. The defendant was arrested on August 7, 2024, following a tip from the CIA, leading to the cancellation of all three sold-out shows attended by approximately 195,000 people. Prosecutors claim police recovered an almost completed bomb at the home of Beran A. Additionally, the defendants face charges related to planned attacks in Istanbul, Dubai, and Mecca. Arda K. has pleaded guilty to intending to carry out a militant attack in Istanbul. Both men deny some of the broader allegations, including direct participation in a specific knife attack in Mecca.
