Rollout of smart water meters in Nicosia and Larnaca

The District Self-Government Organizations (EOA) in Nicosia and Larnaca have initiated projects to replace conventional water meters with smart technology to modernize infrastructure. In Nicosia, the EOA has signed a contract with Cyta to install 72,000 smart meters in eight quarterly phases of 9,000 units each, with completion expected by the end of 2027. Early trials in central Nicosia achieved a 99% success rate, and the first full batch of 9,000 units is scheduled for delivery in early August. These meters will be linked to a mobile application to notify consumers of increased consumption or leaks. In Larnaca, the EOA has already installed over 17,000 out of 25,000 planned smart meters, with full completion targeted for the end of June 2026. The Larnaca initiative covers areas such as Livadia, Aradippou, and the tourist area of Larnaca-Dekeleia, focusing on locations with high water loss. Both projects aim to improve leak detection, provide real-time data, and optimize water resource management.
