Cyprus men's national handball team to participate in 2026 Mediterranean Games
Constantinos Filaretou, president of the Cyprus Handball Federation, announced that the men's national team will compete in the 2026 Mediterranean Games. The event is scheduled to take place in Taranto, Italy, in late August. This marks the national team's first appearance at the Mediterranean Games in thirty years. The announcement was made during a presentation of a partnership with the company Erima, held alongside the Allwyn cup draws for men and women. Filaretou highlighted the federation's growth, noting that nine national teams are currently active, with four teams, including men's, U18, and beach handball squads, active during the summer. The president acknowledged the decisive role of the Cyprus Olympic Committee and its president, George Chrysostomou, in facilitating the team's inclusion in the mission despite logistics and cost challenges. This participation represents a significant milestone for the federation after a three-decade hiatus.
