High rainfall and weather phenomena in Cyprus during April 2026
Cyprus experienced significant rainfall throughout April 2026, reaching 183% of the monthly average by April 29. The Meteorological Department reported that areas like Athienou recorded 316% of normal rainfall, while Prodromos received the highest amount at 135.4 mm. Since October 1, 2025, cumulative rainfall reached 112% of the seasonal norm, with Stavros tis Psokas recording 1019.4 mm. On Tuesday, April 28, intense storms and hail affected mountain and semi-mountainous regions, particularly near Troodos. A waterspout was observed east of Nicosia around 14:30, though no damages were reported in free or occupied areas. Water inflows into dams reached 22.026 million cubic meters, marking the second-highest April performance since 1987. Kitas Weather reported 55.5 mm of rain in Prodromos within six hours, surpassing the monthly average for the region.
