OEKDY SEK union threatens strikes over collective agreement negotiations
The trade union OEKDY SEK has announced plans for potential strikes and industrial action involving government hourly workers, SHSOY (OKYPY) hourly staff, and school board employees. The union is demanding the renewal of the 2025-2027 collective bargaining agreement, following proposals submitted on April 25, 2025. According to the union, employees have received only a 1.5% general salary increase since 2010, granted on October 1, 2024. Furthermore, initial salary scales remain 10% lower than their 2012 levels, with the three lowest grades currently at the national minimum wage. The union argues that salary improvements are essential for a decent standard of living and that the government must support low-wage earners. Additionally, the union is intensifying consultations regarding a separate collective agreement for SHSOY administrative staff, noting that the organization currently lacks formal salary scales.
