Minister of Labour addresses event on occupational safety in Nicosia

Cyprus Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, spoke at a SEK event titled 'Lighting the Candle' held in Nicosia to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. During the event, the Minister reported that the occupational accident rate in Cyprus decreased by approximately 48% between 2014 and 2025. Despite this progress, Mousiouttas emphasized that workplace accidents continue to occur and called for intensified efforts toward the 'Vision 0' goal of zero fatal accidents. He stressed the need for collaboration between social partners and the state to ensure health and safety, as well as a positive psychosocial working environment. The Minister also highlighted the necessity of addressing emerging risks, including those posed by technological progress, climate change, and demographic shifts. The event served as both a memorial for those who lost their lives to workplace injuries or diseases and as an awareness-raising initiative for the public. The official underscored the importance of reflecting on unmet safety targets to improve future working conditions.
