Armed incident involving 89-year-old at public buildings in Athens
On April 28, an 89-year-old man, identified as a scrap collector with a history of psychiatric treatment, carried out armed attacks at two separate locations in Athens. He first entered the EFKA office building in Kerameikos on Keiriadon Street, where he shot and injured a male employee in the leg. After the initial attack, the perpetrator traveled approximately five kilometers by taxi to the Athens Court of Appeal on Loukareos Street. There, he opened fire, causing injuries to several women working as court secretaries. Reports regarding the number of victims at the Court of Appeal vary among sources, citing either two, three, or four injured women. The attacker abandoned his shotgun at the courthouse and remains at large despite an ongoing police manhunt. While the motive remains unconfirmed, authorities noted he left letters addressed to local newspapers at the scene. All victims were transported to the Erythros Stavros Hospital, and their lives are reported to be out of danger.
