Update on the investigation of the Santi case in Cyprus
Cypriot authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the 'Santi' case following allegations by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. Justice Minister Constantinos Fytiris stated that the probe covers all aspects, including the authenticity of controversial messages, and denied allegations of a cover-up. The investigation is in an advanced stage, involving testimonies from numerous current and former state officials, including judicial members. Europol is conducting forensic analysis on digital evidence, with results expected within May. Additionally, an FBI team is scheduled to arrive in Cyprus to provide technical assistance, including the review of translated testimonies. Police sources suggest that arrests remain a possibility once the forensic and international reviews are concluded. President Nikos Christodoulides has clarified that the executive branch is not involved in the investigative process, which has been ongoing since late March.
