Investigation into the Sandy case continues with FBI assistance
The Cyprus Police are continuing an intensive investigation into the allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis regarding the so-called 'Sandy' case. A team from the FBI has arrived in Nicosia to provide auxiliary support, specifically focusing on the evaluation of witness testimonies and physical evidence collected by local authorities. The FBI team is scheduled to meet with the Chief of Police, Themistoklis Arnaoutis, to discuss the materials. While the investigation remains under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Cyprus, Europol experts are also expected to provide forensic results. Drousiotis has publicly criticized the process, alleging that the police are attempting to discredit his claims through manipulated narratives and that former President Nikos Anastasiades is influencing the proceedings. He further alleges that his own involvement in uncovering corruption has made him a target for arrest. The Anti-Corruption Authority is expected to submit its own report on April 30, while Drousiotis has announced a public discussion for May 6.
