FBI experts arrive in Cyprus to assist in the Sandi case investigation

A specialized team from the FBI has arrived in Cyprus to provide auxiliary support in the ongoing investigation regarding the so-called Sandi case. The experts are expected to meet with the Chief of Police, Themistoklis Arnaoutis, to review testimonial evidence and documents, though they will not conduct interrogations themselves. The investigation, which began in late March, also involves forensic analysis from Europol to verify the authenticity of messages and bank records. Justice Minister Constantinos Fytiris stated that the investigation is comprehensive and not targeted at any specific individual, dismissing claims of a cover-up. Journalist Makarios Drousiotis has publicly criticized the process, alleging ties between former President Nicos Anastasiades and a system of power attempting to discredit him. Authorities are continuing to take depositions from current and former officials, with some candidates voluntarily offering their phone and financial records for review. The investigation is expected to determine whether the reported allegations reflect criminal activity or constitute a fabrication. The Minister has instructed the police to conclude the investigation as quickly as possible.
