Cyprus winner selected for Stockholm Junior Water Prize

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the national selection event for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) took place at the Water Museum of the Limassol District Local Government Organization. The competition featured seven schools presenting their research projects to a jury composed of faculty and researchers from the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Institute, and the Cyprus University of Technology. The winning team consisted of students Nefeli Christodoulou and Vasiliki Papadopoulou from the Pancyprian Gymnasium of Nicosia, guided by teacher Melpo Pittara. Their winning project is titled "A Machine Learning-Driven System for Football Field Irrigation using Satellite Analysis and Low Cost IoT Electronics". The event was supported by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the Embassy of Sweden in Cyprus, with the Swedish Ambassador in attendance. The winning team will represent Cyprus at the international SJWP finals held in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 2026.
