Internal investigation launched by Limassol Municipality over missing musical instruments

The Municipality of Limassol is conducting an internal investigation regarding approximately 20 missing musical instruments that previously belonged to the Philharmonic of Mesa Geitonia. These instruments were purchased in 2000 for approximately 60,000 euros. Following the administrative reforms and the consolidation of the Mesa Geitonia municipality into Limassol, a recent audit uncovered purchase invoices but failed to locate the corresponding equipment. Limassol Mayor Giannis Armeftis ordered a formal recording and investigation into the loss. While initial reports indicated only two missing instruments, the count is now estimated to be significantly higher. The investigation, which began last Friday, seeks to determine if the instruments were disposed of or donated through prior municipal decisions. Authorities are currently reviewing records to establish whether the loss resulted from administrative negligence or other factors. Some sources suggest internal tensions within the municipal staff may have contributed to conflicting reports regarding the scope of the incident.
