The 142-meter luxury superyacht Nord, valued at approximately $500 million, successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz between Friday and Sunday. Departing from Dubai on Friday around 14:00 GMT, the vessel reached Muscat by Sunday morning, according to MarineTraffic data. The yacht is linked to Russian billionaire Alexey Mordashov, who is currently subject to international sanctions. Industry observers have noted that this movement is unusual, as maritime traffic through this vital waterway—which handles a significant portion of global oil supplies—has decreased significantly since late February due to the ongoing standoff between the United States and Iran. While commercial traffic has dropped from a daily average of 125–140 vessels to a small fraction, the Nord completed its journey without reported incident. A representative for Mordashov declined to comment on the transit. The geopolitical context is marked by the fragile US-Iran situation and a 2025 security cooperation treaty between Russia and Iran.
