The birth occurred about 30 minutes before the flight's scheduled arrival at 10:00 p.m. local time. The infant is a girl weighing approximately 2.5 kilograms and was born about two weeks earlier than expected. The flight, identified as DL478, carried 152 other passengers, including a doctor and two nurses who assisted the cabin crew during the delivery. The airline stated that the crew was trained to handle medical emergencies. The aircraft landed safely in Portland, where emergency medical services were waiting to attend to the mother and the newborn.
