Train collision near Jakarta results in multiple fatalities

A collision between two trains occurred on Monday evening near the Bekasi Timur station, approximately 25 kilometers east of Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the state-owned railway company KAI, a long-distance express train struck a stationary commuter train on Track 1. The state railway operator officially confirmed 14 fatalities and 84 injuries as of Tuesday. Local authorities reported that the impact damaged a carriage designated for women. Jakarta police chief Asep Edi Suheri stated that rescue operations are ongoing to reach two individuals who remain trapped in the wreckage. While some initial media reports cited lower death tolls, official data now indicates at least 14 deaths. The status of those trapped remains unconfirmed as emergency teams work to extract survivors from the debris.
