Roundabout in Nicosia renamed after Tasos Markou
On Friday, a ceremony was held to rename the Engomi – Agios Dometios roundabout in Nicosia to 'Tasos Markou'. The event was attended by the Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, and the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos. During the proceedings, Mayor Prountzos emphasized the historical significance of the name and called for continued efforts toward a reunified and peaceful Cyprus. Minister Ioannou described Markou as a model of life conduct, while the hero's son, Paris Markou, reflected on the sacrifices made for national freedom. The program included an artistic tribute titled 'Ode to Tasos Markou', featuring performances by baritone Kyros Patsalidis and the Strovolos Municipality – European University Cyprus Symphonic Band under the direction of Yiannis Myralis. Additional contributors to the event included Kostas Charalambidis for narration and text curation, and Michalis Georgiadis for visual materials. The ceremony aimed to honor the legacy of Tasos Markou through commemorative speeches and a dedicated musical presentation.
