Japanese government scholarship program for Cypriot citizens announced for 2027
The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has announced scholarship opportunities for Cypriot citizens for the year 2027. Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1992, and be seeking to conduct research for a master's or doctoral degree at Japanese universities. The scholarship covers round-trip airfare, tuition fees, visa processing, and a monthly stipend of approximately 143,000 to 145,000 yen (roughly 900 euros) to cover living expenses. Students with no prior knowledge of the Japanese language will be provided with an additional six months of language training in Japan, fully funded by the program. The standard duration of the scholarship is two years, with possible extensions granted for the completion of academic requirements. Interested candidates must submit their applications to the Embassy of Japan in Cyprus by June 19, 2026, at 16:30 local time. Applications can be delivered in person or sent via mail.
