PEO and Turkish Cypriot unions issue joint call for Cyprus reunification

On Monday, PEO Secretary General Sotiroula Charalambous addressed a press conference at the Home for Cooperation, accompanied by representatives from Turkish Cypriot trade unions. The event marked the release of a joint declaration advocating for a resolution to the Cyprus problem ahead of May Day. Charalambous emphasized that the current regional instability highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive settlement. She reaffirmed the commitment to a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality, single sovereignty, single citizenship, and one international personality. The union leaders expressed deep concern over the lack of progress in the Cyprus issue for nearly a decade. They called upon the two leaders to resume negotiations from the point reached at the 2017 Crans Montana talks, warning that the current stalemate facilitates the entrenchment of partition. Additionally, the declaration addressed shared economic concerns, including rising living costs and wage stagnation affecting workers across the island.
