Cyprus Theatre Organization to present Euripides' Ion at Epidaurus Festival 2026
The Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOC) will present Euripides' play 'Ion' during the 2026 Athens-Epidaurus Festival. Directed by Thomas Moschopoulos, the production explores themes of identity and belonging within the sanctuary of Delphi. The leading role of Ion will be played by 2025 Dimitris Horn Award winner Giannis Tsoumarakis. Key cast members include Stella Fyrogeni as Creusa, Neoklis Neokleous as Xuthus, and Valentinos Kokkinos as the Tutor, supported by a large ensemble. The production premiere is scheduled for July 16, 2026, in Cyprus, with performances at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus slated for August 28 and 29. Tickets are already available for purchase via more.com. The project follows a reported internal administrative controversy at THOC regarding casting procedures, which board representative Voutouris has denied. This production marks another collaboration between the organization and director Moschopoulos, following their successful staging of Gogol's 'The Government Inspector'.
