Cyprus Minister of Transport addresses potential fuel supply concerns
On Monday, Cypriot Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeades stated that there is currently no fuel shortage in Cyprus. Speaking at a meeting of the European Transport Workers' Federation in Nicosia, he addressed concerns regarding fuel sufficiency amidst instability in the Middle East. Vafeades noted that the government is conducting strategic planning and data monitoring to prepare for potential disruptions. He highlighted that Cyprus is at a disadvantage compared to Central Europe due to its status as an island nation, which makes it entirely dependent on maritime and aerial supply routes. The minister indicated that the authorities are coordinating with the European Commission and utilizing their proposed toolkits to manage supply chain issues. He emphasized that the situation in the Middle East is unpredictable, necessitating proactive monitoring. While no current crisis exists, the ministry is preparing measures to ensure future energy security for the island.
