Ministry of Justice reports intensified contraband seizures at Central Prisons
The Ministry of Justice announced that dozens of mobile phones, narcotics, and other prohibited items have been seized at the Central Prisons over the last four months. These intensified inspections, which began on January 1, are conducted both inside the facility and at visitor entrance points to ensure security. In February, an amendment to the Prisons Law was passed to criminalize the possession, use, or attempted introduction of such items. This law applies to all individuals, including inmates, visitors, and staff. The legislation imposes particularly severe penalties on prison staff found to be involved in the smuggling of contraband. Both the Ministry of Justice and the prison administration have warned that any violations will result in criminal prosecution and potential imprisonment. These measures are part of a broader effort to prevent the entry of illegal goods and maintain order within the prison system.
