Local authorities in Larnaca organize protest over delays in port and marina project

Larnaca local authorities, led by Mayor Andreas Vyras and EOA President Angelos Hatzicharalambous, have announced a protest scheduled for Wednesday at 18:00 at the port roundabout. The mobilization is a response to the failure of the central government and the State Investment Corporation to meet the six-month deadline for presenting a final development plan for the Larnaca port and marina. Officials stated that the presented study contains significant gaps and excludes the development of the land area, which is a core demand for the city. Furthermore, there are disagreements regarding the Ministry of Finance's project note, which local authorities believe indicates a lack of political will to implement the plans. While the architectural competition for a conference center and yacht club is expected to be announced in May, the city leadership fears that current uncertainty could derail the entire project. Mayor Vyras also criticized the Ministry of Transport's suggestion to proceed with construction without prioritizing the immediate development of the land area. The local administration maintains that these ongoing delays and shifting positions threaten the viability of the infrastructure development.
