EU agricultural policy discussions focus on post-2027 strategy

The European Union is currently holding key discussions regarding the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2027. A meeting of CAP Directors is taking place in Paphos, Cyprus, involving representatives from all 27 member states to focus on simplifying and improving the efficiency of agricultural policies. Simultaneously, the AGRIFISH Council met in Luxembourg to address urgent challenges facing European farmers, including geopolitical instability and rising production costs. Agriculture Minister Dr. Maria Panayiotou highlighted that conflicts in the Middle East have disrupted supply chains and increased costs for fuel, transport, and fertilizers. The discussions aim to ensure food security, sustain agricultural incomes, and improve resilience against market volatility and natural disasters like forest fires. The primary goal is to establish a targeted and fair support framework to help farmers adapt to evolving economic pressures. Both events emphasize the necessity of maintaining a stable and productive primary sector across the European Union.
