Internet connectivity disruption in Nicosia public schools
On April 27, 2026, several public schools in Nicosia experienced a disruption in internet access, causing confusion among students and staff. Initial reports suggested that the outage was caused by unpaid bills to the telecommunications provider Cyta. However, the Nicosia School Board clarified that payments were indeed made on February 20, 2026, for the amount of 8,801.46 euros and on March 20, 2026, for 8,837.91 euros. The School Board attributed the service cut to an internal error on the part of Cyta. Conversely, some media reports maintained that the School Board had failed to settle the accounts, noting that standard warning messages are issued by the provider prior to such actions. Cyta has reportedly apologized for the mistake and committed to restoring the service promptly. The situation remains under review as both parties clarify the administrative processing of the payments.
