Kim Jong Un meets Russian officials to discuss military cooperation
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov in Pyongyang on Sunday to reaffirm support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During the talks, Kim pledged full backing for Russia's sovereignty and security interests, describing the conflict as a sacred and just war. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral military ties, with Moscow proposing a cooperation plan for 2027–2031. Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin was also present during the visit. The officials attended the unveiling of a monument dedicated to North Korean soldiers reportedly killed in Ukraine. The ceremony featured cultural events, including air shows and artistic performances depicting combat scenarios. Both nations indicated a formal commitment to deepening their military alliance as the conflict in Ukraine continues. The meetings conclude a series of diplomatic visits by senior Russian figures to North Korea in recent days.
