Consumer Protection checks underway for carnival costumes and Valentine's plush toys

The Cyprus Consumer Protection Service has launched targeted inspections across the market ahead of Carnival and Valentine's Day. Inspectors are visiting approximately 55 retail locations to examine the safety of carnival costumes and the quality of plush toys. Consumers are urged to check for the CE marking, which guarantees compliance with European safety standards, and to avoid anonymous products. Specific warnings include avoiding costumes with cords due to strangulation risks and ensuring masks allow for proper breathing. For plush toys, the service advises checking for loose buttons or seams that could pose a choking hazard to children. While some unsuitable items have already been identified, the final results will be announced after the campaign concludes on February 11th.
