White House reviews presidential security protocols following recent threats
The White House is considering implementing stricter security measures, including the potential use of bulletproof vests for President Donald Trump during public appearances. This review follows a security breach at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel, where an armed man identified as Cole Thomas Allen attempted to bypass security checkpoints. Allen exchanged fire with Secret Service agents, wounding one who was saved by his protective gear, before being taken into custody. Authorities noted that the suspect had sent a manifesto expressing intent to target the president and government officials. This incident adds to a history of threats against Trump, including two assassination attempts during his 2024 campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania, and West Palm Beach, Florida. Previous security lapses have led to investigations and leadership changes within the Secret Service. Other documented threats dating back to 2016 include an attempted weapon seizure in Las Vegas and an attempt to ram a motorcade with a forklift in North Dakota.
