Minister of education addresses series of events regarding educational reform and european identity
Throughout the week, the Cypriot Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, attended several public events to discuss the government's educational strategy. On Monday, during an award ceremony for an essay competition in Nicosia focused on gender stereotypes, the Minister emphasized the goal of creating a school system that actively shapes society and promotes gender equality. On Friday, she spoke at the 30th-anniversary event of the Apostolos Pavlos Gymnasium in Paphos, outlining a holistic reform plan that includes infrastructure upgrades, digital transition, and school safety. During this event, she also highlighted the role of education in fostering national awareness and reunification efforts. Separately, on Thursday, the Minister attended a concert by the Music School of Nicosia, noting the importance of the younger generation in promoting Cyprus’s history and identity during the current Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. She reiterated the government's commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and fair educational system that prepares citizens for future challenges.
