Critical condition of worker following fall from refuse truck in Strovolos

A 24-year-old municipal employee of the Strovolos Municipality is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital following an incident on April 23, 2026. The victim, who had been employed by the municipality for three to four months, fell from the back of a refuse truck while working on Austria Street. Police are investigating the incident as both a road traffic accident and a potential workplace accident. The driver of the vehicle stated that no other cars were involved in a collision and noted the vehicle was moving at a low speed. Mayor Stavros Stavrinidis confirmed the vehicle passed all necessary safety checks and that the victim had received professional training.
