President Christodoulides attends the annual Christodoula march in Nicosia
On Saturday, President Nikos Christodoulides attended the annual Christodoula march in Nicosia to support cancer awareness and patient care. The event, held 51 years after its inception, commemorates Christodoula, a cancer patient who fled Famagusta during the 1974 Turkish invasion. During his address, the President emphasized the critical need for increased investment in cancer prevention. He highlighted state initiatives, including the expansion of screening programs and the establishment of the National Cancer Institute, which is tasked with coordinating research and treatment centers. The Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society reported that it supported approximately 4,500 patients over the past year, providing over 80,000 services such as home nursing, psychological support, and transportation. The President also acknowledged the contributions of organizations like Arodafnousa and the Bank of Cyprus. He stressed that health and education require dedicated commitment rather than simple accounting measures. The march continues to serve as a symbolic point of unity for patients and families affected by the disease.
