Romania identifies drone fragments after overnight Russian attack on Ukraine
On Saturday, the Romanian Ministry of Defence reported the recovery of drone fragments in the southeastern city of Galati and Tulcea county following a Russian aerial attack on neighboring Ukraine. The incident resulted in damage to an electricity pole and a household annex, marking the first time such an attack has caused property damage on Romanian soil. No casualties were reported. The Romanian emergency response agency temporarily evacuated residents near the Galati site to safely dispose of fragments that may contain explosive charges. In response to the breach, the Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to lodge a formal protest. Two British Eurofighter Typhoon jets, currently participating in an air-policing mission, were scrambled to monitor the airspace. Romania, a NATO and EU member, condemned the event as a threat to regional security and stability in the Black Sea.
