Fire at abandoned premises in Larnaca

A fire broke out on Friday afternoon at 5:04 pm in an abandoned ground-floor building in Larnaca. Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis reported that the blaze originated from discarded materials, damaging the interior false ceiling and filling the property with heat and smoke. The extreme heat also damaged the roof, wooden beams, and tiles of an adjacent house. Firefighters deployed two fire engines and used breathing apparatus and water hoses to extinguish the flames and dismantle parts of the ceiling. A search was conducted following reports of a person trapped inside, but the premises were found empty. Authorities noted that foreign nationals had been living at the property. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
