New psychiatric clinic to open at Limassol General Hospital in May

A new psychiatric clinic is scheduled to open at the Limassol General Hospital in May 2025. Health Minister Neophytos Charalambidis noted that the opening was postponed from April to May to finalize legal procedures required for court-ordered patient admissions. The facility will be staffed by 16 doctors and nurses and will provide 7-9 standard beds plus one specialized room. This initiative aims to reduce pressure on the Athalassa psychiatric hospital, where three buildings have been deemed unsuitable for operations. Additionally, patients will be transferred to a 12-bed unit at the Christos Stelios Ioannou Foundation, which is expected to begin operations within two months. These steps are part of a broader Ministry of Health strategy to reallocate patients and improve regional psychiatric care access for Limassol and Paphos residents.
