Homicide investigation launched after death of 85-year-old robbery victim in Nicosia

Charalambos Kounnapis, an 85-year-old man, passed away at the Nicosia General Hospital where he had been hospitalized since December 2025. His death follows a violent assault and robbery that took place at his residence in the Nicosia district on December 20, 2025. During the incident, the victim reported that an unknown individual broke into his home, attacked him, and stole an undisclosed sum of money. Police have categorized the incident as a homicide investigation following his recent passing. A 19-year-old suspect is currently in custody and has been referred to the Criminal Court. The suspect remains in detention pending the outcome of the trial. The Morphou Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) continues to conduct examinations to fully clarify the case.
