Elderly man rescued after falling into deep pit in Avgorou

An elderly man was injured after falling into a dry pit in the courtyard of his home in the Avgorou community settlement, Famagusta district. The incident occurred at 12:26 PM yesterday when a makeshift cover over the pit collapsed. The pit measured approximately two by one meters and reached a depth of eight meters. The Cyprus Fire Service responded to the scene with a rescue vehicle and its crew. Rescuers utilized a specialized rescue tripod to extract the individual from the pit. The man remained conscious throughout the operation. Following his successful rescue, he was handed over to an ambulance crew. He was subsequently transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Famagusta General Hospital for medical treatment.
