Former beauty queen killed in Mexico City

The 27-year-old former Miss Teen Universe for Baja California, Carolina Flores Gomez, was fatally shot in her Mexico City apartment. Authorities have identified the 63-year-old mother-in-law of the victim, Erika Herrera, as the suspect. According to footage published by the newspaper Reforma, Herrera followed the victim into a room before multiple gunshots were heard. The victim, who was a mother to an eight-month-old child, suffered 12 gunshot wounds. In the video, the victim's husband, Alejandro Gomez, is seen holding their infant child and confronting his mother about the incident. The prosecutor's office of Mexico City has issued an arrest warrant for Herrera and initiated a homicide investigation. The mother of the victim, Reina Gomez Molina, stated that the incident was reported to authorities the following day due to safety concerns for the child. The victim had moved to the capital after winning her beauty title in 2017.
