Cypriot parliamentary election polls project shift toward new political movements
Recent polls conducted by Rai Consultants for Alpha TV indicate that traditional Cypriot parties face significant losses in the upcoming parliamentary elections. DISY and AKEL are projected to secure 13 seats each, marking their lowest performance since 1981, while DIKO is forecast to drop to five seats, the lowest in its 50-year history. Emerging political forces are expected to gain momentum, with ELAM projected to reach third place with nine seats, more than doubling its 2021 result. New formations like Fidias Panayiotou’s Direct Democracy and Odysseas Michaelides’ ALMA are polling to win seven and six seats respectively, with Volt also expected to enter parliament. Analysts suggest these shifts reflect voter discontent and the normalization of protest voting following recent European elections. Large numbers of undecided voters and potential turnout fluctuations remain critical factors that could impact the final results. Traditional parties have struggled to consolidate their voter base and are currently unable to launch effective counter-campaigns.
