Orthodox liturgical calendar commemorations for April 24 and 25
The Orthodox Church commemorates several saints and figures on April 24 and 25. On April 24, celebrations include Saint Elisabeth the Wonderworker, Hieromartyr Achilleus, Saint Doukas the Tailor, and martyrs Pasikrates and Valention, with name days for Elisabeth, Achilleas, Doukas, and Valentina. On April 25, the Church honors Mark the Apostle and Evangelist, known as the founder of the Church of Alexandria. Born around 20 AD, Mark wrote his Gospel in Rome during the 60s based on oral accounts from Saint Peter. According to tradition, he was martyred in Alexandria in 68 AD and his relics were later moved to Venice in 828 AD.
