Escalation of cross-border hostilities between Israel, Hezbollah, and Gaza factions

Recent hostilities in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip have intensified despite existing ceasefire agreements. In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes killed at least eight people, including three rescuers attempting to evacuate civilians in Majdal Zoun, and resulted in casualties in Zouaiya and Zibqin. President Joseph Aoun condemned the targeting of rescue personnel, while the Israeli military reported destroying Hezbollah underground infrastructure in Qantara using 450 tonnes of explosives. Simultaneously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered continued strikes, citing security requirements and Hezbollah's alleged ceasefire violations. Hezbollah maintained its operations against Israeli military positions, including strikes on a tank and an excavator. In Gaza, near-daily Israeli strikes have caused additional fatalities, with reports indicating hundreds of deaths since the October 2025 ceasefire. Israeli forces and Palestinian factions, including Hamas, continue to trade blame for breaches of the truce. The situation remains volatile as both sides report recurring drone and rocket activity alongside ground operations.
